Teething is one of the earliest hurdles that your child has to deal with, and you as a parent will have to help them get through. However, by the time your child is around two years old, you’re probably already an expert in dealing with it.
That’s around when your child will first start developing their molars, which should be the final stage of teething. Here’s how you can help your child deal with their two-year molars.
What are Two-Year Molars?
As you’re probably aware, the first teeth that your child will develop are their front teeth. They won’t develop their baby molars until much later; there are four of them, and they usually come in one after another.
Most children get their first top molars somewhere between 13 and 19 months, and the first bottom molars between 14 and 18 months. The second molars will come in between 25 and 33 months on the top row, and 23 and 31 months on the bottom.
Dealing with Two-Year Molars
You’re probably well aware by now of what teething looks like—drooling, chewing, and all kinds of irritability. However, many of the teething rings that you’ve used before are designed specifically for the front teeth, so they aren’t going to work as well for their molars.
Now that your child has some teeth, you can give them something a little bit easier to chew on—food! Carrots, apples, and peeled cucumbers can all be tasty, nutritious treats for your child, and they give them the opportunity to test out their new molars.
You can also give your child something more durable to chew on. A cold washcloth, or a damp piece of gauze, can give your child an opportunity to gnaw on something that will soothe the inflammation of their gums. Just be sure to take these away from your child before they start to fray.
